What is Aurochem?

AUROCHEM is a trademark and the name of the Indian pharmaceutical company Aurochem Laboratories, which specializes in the production of generics, i.e., reproduced medicines with already known active substances. Under the AUROCHEM label, a wide range of preparations is manufactured: tablets, capsules, soft gelatin capsules, oral jellies (gel sachets), solutions for injections, and agents for external use. Each specific AUROCHEM product has its own active substance, dosage, and pharmacological group, so the term "AUROCHEM" should be understood as an umbrella brand rather than a single medication with a single formula. That is why, before purchasing, it is important to carefully read the name of the active substance on the packaging, as it determines all the clinical characteristics of the product.

The most well-known and popular AUROCHEM items in Ukraine belong to the group of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitors — these are sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil, as well as combined forms with dapoxetine. In addition to products for men's health, the company's portfolio includes antibacterial drugs, antifungal agents, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antihistamines, and gastroenterological medicines. AUROCHEM production is certified according to international Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, which involves quality control of raw materials, stability, and bioequivalence of finished products. Generics, by definition, must prove therapeutic equivalence to the original drug, meaning they must provide the same clinical effect.

The main advantage of AUROCHEM products is the price-to-quality ratio: the cost of generics is significantly lower than original brands, as the manufacturer does not spend money on developing the molecule and conducting multi-year clinical trials from scratch. Release forms are often expanded compared to the original: for example, oral jellies with flavor additives, double dosages, and combined tablets with two active components. Such solutions make treatment more convenient for patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets or require a rapid onset of action. At the same time, any AUROCHEM product remains a medicine, not a dietary supplement, and requires prior consultation with a doctor.

What is Aurochem prescribed for?

The widest group of indications among AUROCHEM preparations is erectile dysfunction — a persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. PDE-5 inhibitors in these products are used for vascular, psychogenic, and mixed forms of dysfunction, as well as for erectile dysfunction associated with diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, metabolic syndrome, or after prostate surgery. Tadalafil in a daily low-dose regimen is additionally prescribed for symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia — difficult urination, nighttime urges, and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying. Sildenafil in specific dosages is used in cardiopulmonology for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Combined AUROCHEM preparations with dapoxetine are indicated for premature ejaculation — a condition where ejaculation occurs sooner than desired by both partners, usually in less than one to two minutes. Dapoxetine belongs to the class of short-acting selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and prolongs the time to ejaculation, improving control over the reflex. Such combinations allow simultaneous action on the two most common sexual dysfunctions in men, which simplifies the treatment regimen. The prescription of such agents requires a prior examination, as the symptoms may conceal endocrine, neurological, or psycho-emotional pathology.

Other AUROCHEM lines cover infectious diseases (cephalosporin, macrolide, and fluoroquinolone antibiotics), pain and inflammatory syndrome (diclofenac, ibuprofen, nimesulide), as well as allergic conditions and digestive disorders. Each of these groups has its own clear indications, which are specified in the official instructions for the specific package. Self-diagnosis based on symptoms is dangerous, especially when it comes to antibacterial agents, the irrational use of which leads to the development of micro-organism resistance. The decision on the appropriateness of therapy must be made by a doctor after an examination and, if necessary, laboratory testing.

Composition and active components of Aurochem

The active substance of AUROCHEM preparations depends on the specific product name: sildenafil citrate in dosages of 50, 100, 120, or 150 mg, tadalafil 5, 20, 40, 60 mg, vardenafil 20 mg, dapoxetine hydrochloride 30 or 60 mg. PDE-5 inhibitors block the phosphodiesterase type 5 enzyme, which breaks down cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) — a mediator molecule responsible for relaxing the smooth muscles of the blood vessels of the corpora cavernosa. As a result, during sexual stimulation, blood flow to the penis increases, and a stable erection is formed. A key clarification: the drug does not work without natural sexual arousal, as it only enhances the physiological mechanism rather than starting it artificially.

Dapoxetine in combined AUROCHEM forms inhibits serotonin reuptake in spinal cord synapses, increasing the threshold of the ejaculatory reflex. Its feature is rapid absorption and rapid elimination from the body, due to which the drug is taken on an as-needed basis, rather than as a continuous course like classic antidepressants. Excipients in tablets usually include microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, talc, and film coating components with colorants. The presence of lactose is important for individuals with lactose intolerance, and colorants are important for patients prone to allergic reactions.

AUROCHEM oral jellies contain the same active substance but in a gel base with glycerin, sorbitol, flavorings, and sweeteners. This form is partially absorbed already in the oral cavity and stomach, so the effect may occur faster than with a classic tablet. Antibacterial drugs of the brand contain the corresponding molecules — azithromycin, cefixime, levofloxacin — with a mechanism of action aimed at inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell protein or DNA. The exact list of components is always provided in the leaflet, which should be kept until the end of the treatment course.

Dosage of Aurochem

For AUROCHEM preparations based on sildenafil, the standard starting dose for adult men is considered to be 50 mg approximately 30–60 minutes before sexual activity, with the possibility of adjustment to 25 mg or 100 mg depending on efficacy and tolerability. The maximum frequency of administration is no more than one dose per day; exceeding this limit does not enhance the effect but significantly increases the risk of side effects. Tadalafil is taken at a dose of 10–20 mg on an as-needed basis, with its action lasting up to 36 hours, or 5 mg daily at the same time for constant readiness and treatment of prostate hyperplasia symptoms. Vardenafil is usually prescribed at a dose of 10 mg, with adjustments in the range of 5–20 mg.

Dapoxetine as part of combined AUROCHEM tablets is recommended to be started at 30 mg 1–3 hours before planned intimacy, increasing to 60 mg only in case of insufficient efficacy and absence of side effects. Taking it more than once a day is prohibited, and the duration of use is usually evaluated after the first four weeks of therapy. For elderly patients, as well as individuals with hepatic or renal insufficiency, the starting dose of PDE-5 inhibitors is often halved. Adjustment is also required for those who simultaneously take inhibitors of the CYP3A4 enzyme system — certain antifungal agents, macrolides, or HIV treatment drugs.

The dosage of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory AUROCHEM drugs is determined exclusively by a doctor based on the type of pathogen, body weight, age, and severity of the condition. Shortening the antibiotic course after symptoms disappear is a common mistake that leads to relapse and the formation of resistant strains. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are used at the minimum effective dose for the shortest possible period. The individual response of the body can vary significantly, so any dose change must be agreed with a specialist.

How to take Aurochem correctly?

AUROCHEM tablets are swallowed whole, without chewing or crushing, with a sufficient amount of clean water — approximately 150–200 ml. Oral jelly is squeezed from the sachet onto a spoon or directly into the mouth and not washed down for a few minutes to ensure initial absorption. PDE-5 inhibitors can be taken regardless of food intake, but a heavy, fatty meal slows down the absorption of sildenafil and vardenafil and delays the onset of action by 30–60 minutes. Tadalafil is practically insensitive to this factor, making it more convenient for planning.

As-needed preparations do not have a fixed schedule, so the concept of a "missed dose" does not apply to them — the product is simply taken before required. If AUROCHEM is prescribed as a course (for example, tadalafil 5 mg daily or an antibiotic), in case of a missed dose, it should be taken as soon as remembered, provided that there is enough time left before the next dose. Doubling the dose to compensate for a missed one is strictly forbidden. Grapefruit juice should be avoided during treatment, as it increases the concentration of many active substances in the blood.

Before the first intake, it is important to ensure there are no cardiovascular contraindications, as sexual activity itself places a load on the heart. The drug should not be combined with "natural stimulants" or dietary supplements of unknown composition, which often contain undeclared PDE-5 inhibitors. If an erection after taking the drug lasts more than four hours and is accompanied by pain (priapism), immediate medical attention is required. Efficacy is evaluated after at least four to eight attempts before concluding that the drug is ineffective.

Side effects of Aurochem

The most common adverse reactions to AUROCHEM drugs of the PDE-5 group are headache, facial flushing, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, and heartburn. These phenomena are associated with vasodilation in various parts of the body and are usually mild and transient, disappearing within a few hours. Dizziness, back and muscle pain (more common with tadalafil), nausea, and dry mouth are also possible. Dapoxetine can cause nausea, drowsiness, headache, anxiety, and less commonly, orthostatic hypotension with a risk of fainting.

Uncommon side effects include visual disturbances — blurriness, increased sensitivity to light, changes in blue-green color perception, as well as ringing in the ears and temporary hearing loss. Tachycardia, a sharp drop in blood pressure, nosebleeds, skin rashes, and hives are rarely reported. Very rare but serious complications include priapism, non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy with sudden vision loss in one eye, and severe allergic reactions with facial swelling and difficulty breathing. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory AUROCHEM drugs have their own side-effect profile — from dysbiosis and diarrhea to erosions of the gastric mucosa.

It is necessary to seek immediate medical attention in case of sudden chest pain, severe shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, a sharp decrease in vision or hearing, a prolonged painful erection, or signs of anaphylaxis. Moderate side effects that do not go away within a day or recur after each intake are a reason to review the dose or replace the drug. The body's reaction is individual: what is well tolerated by one person may cause discomfort to another. All adverse effects should be reported to the supervising doctor.

Contraindications of Aurochem

An absolute contraindication for AUROCHEM preparations with PDE-5 inhibitors is the simultaneous intake of any nitrates (nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate) and nitric oxide donors, as such a combination can cause a critical drop in blood pressure. These agents are not used in case of individual intolerance to components, severe hepatic impairment, recently suffered myocardial infarction or stroke (less than 6 months), unstable angina, uncontrolled arrhythmia, and severe hypotension. A contraindication is also hereditary degenerative retinal pathology, in particular, retinitis pigmentosa, and a history of optic neuropathy. Conditions in which sexual activity is undesirable for cardiological reasons make the prescription of such drugs impossible.

Relative contraindications include anatomical deformities of the penis, predisposition to priapism (sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia), active peptic ulcer disease, and bleeding disorders. Caution is required in patients with renal insufficiency, aortic stenosis, and those taking alpha-blockers for the treatment of prostate issues or hypertension. Dapoxetine is not prescribed for depression, bipolar disorder, epilepsy, and the simultaneous intake of monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Each case requires an individual assessment of the benefit-risk ratio.

Medicines for the treatment of erectile dysfunction under the AUROCHEM brand are intended exclusively for adult men and are not used in women, including during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as in individuals under 18 years of age. Elderly patients are recommended to start with minimal doses due to slowed metabolism and a higher probability of concomitant diseases. Antibiotics and other lines of the brand have their own age limits specified in the instructions. Before starting any therapy, a doctor's consultation is mandatory, along with a review of all medications the patient takes regularly.

Interaction of Aurochem with other medicines and alcohol

The most dangerous is the interaction of PDE-5 inhibitors with nitrates and guanylate cyclase stimulators (riociguat) — the risk of collapse here is considered life-threatening. Alpha-blockers (tamsulosin, doxazosin) also enhance the hypotensive effect, so the interval between doses should be at least 4 hours. CYP3A4 inhibitors — ketoconazole, itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir — increase the concentration of the active substance in the blood and require a dose reduction, while rifampicin and carbamazepine, on the contrary, weaken the effect. Dapoxetine is incompatible with SSRI antidepressants, tricyclic antidepressants, triptans, lithium, and St. John's wort preparations due to the risk of serotonin syndrome.

Alcohol in combination with AUROCHEM drugs is undesirable: ethanol itself suppresses erectile function, and together with the vasodilating effect of the medicine, it enhances dizziness, tachycardia, and orthostatic hypotension. Such a combination is especially risky with dapoxetine, as the likelihood of fainting and injury increases. Regarding driving and operating machinery, caution is required, as dizziness, drowsiness, and visual impairment are possible. Until your own reaction to the drug is established, you should refrain from driving.
