What is CIALIS?
CIALIS is a prescription medication for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men. Its active substance, tadalafil, belongs to the class of phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors—agents that improve blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. The drug is typically produced in the form of film-coated tablets in several dosages. Specific indications, the composition of excipients, and dispensing terms must be verified against the official instructions of the purchased package.
The original CIALIS is associated with the pharmaceutical company specified on the packaging and in the registration documents of a particular batch of the drug. Since the manufacturer is not specified in the request, it should not be determined solely by the trade name: the manufacturing site and the registration holder may vary depending on the market. Before purchasing, it is recommended to check the manufacturer's name, the registration certificate number, the expiration date, and the integrity of the packaging. This helps distinguish a registered medicine from products of questionable origin.
CIALIS is not a hormonal agent, an aphrodisiac, or a drug that automatically causes an erection. The effect develops only in the presence of sexual stimulation, and a long window of action does not mean a continuous erection. Tadalafil can maintain clinical activity for up to 36 hours; however, the onset, intensity, and duration of the effect depend on the individual response of the body. A doctor's consultation is mandatory before taking the medication, especially in the presence of cardiovascular diseases or ongoing drug therapy.
What is CIALIS prescribed for?
The primary indication for CIALIS is erectile dysfunction, which is the persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. Tadalafil enhances the natural vascular response to sexual stimulation but does not eliminate psychological, hormonal, or anatomical causes of the disorder. If the problem recurs, an evaluation of glucose levels, blood pressure, hormonal status, and cardiovascular risk is required. Self-treatment can mask a disease for which erectile dysfunction is an early symptom.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia can also be an indication for the daily use of tadalafil in an appropriate dosage. The drug is capable of reducing lower urinary tract symptoms, including difficulty starting urination, a weak stream, and frequent nighttime urges. It does not directly shrink the prostate and does not replace a urological examination. The appearance of blood in the urine, pain, urinary retention, or sharp worsening requires immediate medical evaluation.
The combination of erectile dysfunction and symptoms of prostatic hyperplasia may be a reason for choosing a daily treatment regimen. The decision depends on the age, concomitant diseases, frequency of sexual activity, and other medications of the patient. Tadalafil also exists in treatment regimens for pulmonary arterial hypertension; however, special indications, dosages, and commercial forms are used for this. It is not allowed to use CIALIS on one's own to treat high pressure in pulmonary vessels.
Composition and active ingredients of CIALIS
The active component of CIALIS is tadalafil, the amount of which is indicated on the packaging and in the instructions. It selectively inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5, abbreviated as PDE-5. As a result, cyclic guanosine monophosphate—a molecule that promotes the relaxation of smooth muscles of blood vessels and blood flow to the corpora cavernosa of the penis—is preserved longer. Without sexual stimulation, the corresponding biochemical signal is not formed, so the drug does not provide an erection on its own.
Excipients create the tablet shape, ensure its strength, stability, coloring, and proper release of tadalafil. Various registered options may include fillers, binders, disintegrants, and film coating components. They do not have an independent therapeutic effect, but they can be important for people with allergies or intolerance to individual substances. The exact list must be verified with the package leaflet of the specific CIALIS package.
CIALIS Dosage
For use as needed, adult men are often prescribed 10 mg of tadalafil before anticipated sexual activity. Depending on efficacy and tolerability, the doctor may decrease the dose to 5 mg or increase it to 20 mg. Taking the drug more than once a day is not allowed, and doses of 10–20 mg are not intended for continuous daily use. The specific regimen is determined by the doctor after assessing the state of the heart, liver, kidneys, and concomitant therapy.
With regular sexual activity, a daily regimen may be used: usually 5 mg at approximately the same time, sometimes with a reduction to 2.5 mg. For symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, a typical dose is 5 mg once daily, but the duration of treatment is established by a urologist. Splitting the tablet on your own is allowed only when it is explicitly permitted by the instructions and the design of the dosage form. Increasing the dose does not guarantee a stronger erection, but it increases the risk of adverse reactions.
Dosage adjustment may be required in case of impaired renal or hepatic function, in elderly age, and with simultaneous use of agents that alter the metabolism of tadalafil. In severe renal or hepatic insufficiency, some regimens are contraindicated or not recommended. The course does not have a universal duration: daily treatment requires periodic assessment of efficacy and safety. CIALIS should not be combined with other erectile dysfunction drugs without a direct prescription from a doctor.
How to take CIALIS correctly?
The tablet is swallowed whole with water, regardless of food intake. In the "as-needed" regimen, it is taken in advance according to the doctor's recommendation; the effect in some patients may start in about 30 minutes. Fatty food usually does not have a significant effect on the absorption of tadalafil, but excessive alcohol consumption can impair erection and tolerability of the treatment. Sexual stimulation remains a necessary condition for the action of CIALIS.
If a daily dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as remembered, provided that the time for the next dose is not close. A double dose to compensate for a missed one must not be taken. In the "as-needed" regimen, the concept of a missed dose does not apply, since the tablet is used before planned activity. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the maximum frequency of administration specified by the doctor.
Before starting treatment, you should inform your doctor about chest pain, fainting, a history of heart attack or stroke, vision impairment, and all regularly used medications. Sexual activity puts an extra strain on the heart, so in an unstable cardiac condition, it can be dangerous regardless of the medication. CIALIS does not protect against sexually transmitted infections and is not a contraceptive. Any individual reaction of the body that causes concern requires consultation with a medical specialist.
Side effects of CIALIS
Common side effects include headache, hot flashes, nasal congestion, dyspepsia, heartburn, back pain, and muscle aches. Usually, these phenomena are mild or moderate and resolve on their own. Dizziness, palpitations, blood pressure fluctuations, abdominal pain, nausea, or nosebleeds occur uncommonly. The frequency and intensity of reactions depend on the dose, health status, and simultaneous use of other substances.
Rare but dangerous reactions include prolonged painful erection, sudden worsening of vision or hearing, severe allergic reaction, fainting, or chest pain. An erection lasting more than four hours requires emergency care, as it can damage the tissues of the penis. In case of chest pain, nitrates must not be taken on one's own; medical professionals must be informed about the time of the last intake of tadalafil. A sudden impairment of vision, hearing, breathing, or swelling of the face is a reason to immediately stop taking the drug and seek help.
Contraindications of CIALIS
The combination of CIALIS with organic nitrates, including medications for angina pectoris, is absolutely contraindicated due to the risk of a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Tadalafil must not be combined with guanylate cyclase stimulators, which are used for certain forms of pulmonary hypertension. The drug is not used in case of allergy to tadalafil or auxiliary components. Certain severe cardiovascular conditions where sexual activity is not recommended may also be a contraindication.
Special caution is required in patients with low blood pressure, uncontrolled hypertension, severe liver or kidney diseases, penile deformity, or predisposition to priapism. The risk group for priapism includes men with sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, and leukemia. Prior loss of vision due to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy requires a separate safety assessment. Relative contraindications are determined by the doctor, taking into account the benefit and potential risk.
CIALIS is not intended for women, so its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not provided. The drug is not used in children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Elderly men do not always need an automatic dose reduction, but concomitant diseases and polypharmacy increase the risk of interactions. Age does not replace an individual assessment of heart, kidney, and liver function.
Interaction of CIALIS with other drugs and alcohol
In addition to categorically prohibited nitrates, interactions with alpha-blockers, antihypertensive drugs, and certain medications that affect the hepatic enzyme CYP3A4 are important. Certain antifungal, antiviral agents, and some antibiotics can increase the concentration of tadalafil, while certain anticonvulsants can weaken its effect. Combination with other PDE-5 inhibitors or treatments for erectile dysfunction has not been sufficiently studied and is not recommended. The doctor must be provided with a complete list of prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal preparations.
A small amount of alcohol does not always cause an interaction, but significant consumption increases the risk of dizziness, rapid heartbeat, headache, and orthostatic hypotension—a drop in blood pressure when standing up. Alcohol can also independently impair erection, reducing the expected efficacy of the treatment. If CIALIS has caused dizziness or vision impairment, driving and operating machinery are not allowed until the symptoms disappear completely. Before the first trip after taking the drug, you should make sure that it does not affect your reaction speed.
Where to buy CIALIS in Ukraine
It is advisable to buy CIALIS in Ukraine in licensed brick-and-mortar pharmacies or official pharmacy services in compliance with the current rules of prescription dispensing. When ordering online, you need to check the seller's details, Ukrainian labeling, dosage, batch, expiration date, and the presence of instructions. A suspiciously low price, sale of individual tablets without original packaging, or the promise of a guaranteed result may indicate a counterfeit. Delivery conditions must protect the drug from moisture, overheating, freezing, and damage.
CIALIS should be stored in its original packaging, out of reach of children, and at the temperature specified by the manufacturer in the official instructions. Tablets must not be used after the expiration date or if their appearance and the integrity of the coating change. Before purchasing and taking, a consultation with a doctor is necessary, who will confirm the indications, rule out dangerous interactions, and select the dose. Efficacy and tolerability may vary, as the body's reaction to tadalafil is always individual.
